Aortic regurgitation
Aortic Regurgitation is a condition in which the aortic valve does not close properly, causing blood to leak back into the heart instead of flowing out to the body.1

What is Aortic Regurgitation
Aortic Regurgitation is a condition that affects the aortic valve. The aortic valve controls blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. In Aortic Regurgitation, the aortic valve doesn't close properly, which allows some of the blood that is pumped out of the heart to leak back into the left ventricle.
Aortic Regurgitation can be caused by several factors, including a congenital heart defect, rheumatic fever, infection of the heart valve, or an aortic aneurysm, which is a bulge in the wall of the aorta. It can also be caused by age-related degeneration of the valve, so your likelihood of developing Aortic Regurgitation increases with age.2
